Year 7 Curriculum

Year 7 is a time of great change for your daughter/son. The transition from primary to secondary school is a challenging one. There are new routines, specialist teachers and facilities, different areas of study, and a large building to contend with. Many new friendship groups are formed and parents are understandably anxious.

We hope that some of these fears were allayed during the two induction days, and by now anxieties are changing into excitement and enjoyment of school. This booklet aims to provide parents with information that will help them support their daughter’s/son’s learning as they progress through Year 7.

Year 8 Curriculum

Pupils are now settled into Smestow after the transition from Primary School. They have adjusted to new routines and are aware of the expectations of themselves, both as a pupil and as a member of the school community.

The staff will expect your child to work with commitment and effort towards their target grade and to achieve the highest possible standard.
This booklet aims to provide parents with information that will help them support their daughter/son’s learning as they progress through Year 8.

Year 9 Curriculum

Year 9 is a very important year in the life of your daughter/son. The Key Stage Three curriculum enters its final phase; option choices for GCSE are made and SATs exams are taken in May.

Work in Year 9 consolidates work in Years 7 and 8 and builds foundations for GCSE courses at Key Stage Four. There are new demands and the time spent working at home increases.
We would expect each student to attain a level in Key Stage Three SATs, at least one, and preferably two levels higher than that attained at the end of Key Stage Two. Levels are still very fluid and can change easily. A change of approach, attitude or work rate will have a profound effect.
